Community Spotlight: SUNY Cobleskill Basic Sorting/Grading Class

SUNY Cobleskill Basic SGC Course

Join a cohort of both first-time and seasoned fiber processors for a self-paced Basic Fiber Sorting, Grading, and Classing (SGC) microcredential through SUNY Cobleskill Ag & Tech, from December 1 through 15.

In this hands-on online course, you will learn the basics of fiber quality control, harvesting, manufacturing standards, animal-specific fiber tips, and gain the skills necessary to advance to the next level as an apprentice or become a master sorter. Participants will receive fiber samples to fulfill the hands-on learning component while completing the accompanying online course work. This course provides essential skills needed for employment in the textile and fiber industries or business-building opportunities directly after completion.

This initiative is supported by the Empire State Development (ESD) Mohawk Valley Empowers grant, which delivers pre-employment training required in the fiber industry to bolster the local workforce and create pathways for gainful employment opportunities in the region. Tuition is offered at a 50% discount through grant support, $90 per participant ($180 value).

Registration is now open, learn how to sort, grade, and class fiber!
